when a work piece is extended from the chuck it causes problems when trying to supporting it,
only thing you can do is use a steady, but these get in the way, so this is what the adaptor is used for
its a triple bearing heavy duty revolving centre with a Boxford 1 1/2″ x 8 thread,
so you can grip both ends of the work piece,
great for holding large diameter boiler tube etc.
